Flicker

Welcome to Flicker's Lair

Welcome to our website, I am Heidi and I am a web developer, my husband is Steve and he does technical support for me and for Cognos! We live in Ottawa, Canada, having emigrated from Northampton, England in 2006.

We love animals; especially cats, dogs aren’t bad either! We have an 8 acre homestead or hobby farm, with Shetland sheep, Chantecler chickens, Muscovy ducks and a large vegetable garden. I love books (well reading generally), photography, walking in the country side, scrapbooking, genealogy, the list goes on. Steve keeps a saltwater reef aquarium and is an avid golfer! This site is about all these things and anything else that happens to catch my attention or entertains me.

In addition we have a couple of separate sites, there is our web development business site, our family tree site and the diet club that I started after I read a tip saying that it helps to have a support group when trying to lose weight.

I – we – hope you enjoy.

  • Amazing progress ~ Over the weekend we made huge progress with Chloe (I have just been calling him Chappie) and Alfie. By the time we left their room Saturday evening we had not only gotten pills into both of them but both were all of the sudden singing, happy cuddle kittens. Since then all though every time we [...] Posted on Tuesday, 02 December 2008 by Heidi
  • Population fluctuation & Aspen sightings ~ What an eventful day, since we got up this morning we have moved 102 bales of hay, reduced the chicken population by 5 roosters, won a race for a cat climber for George’s place and had two separate sightings of Aspen! We started early with the delivery of the final instalment of winter rations for our [...] Posted on Saturday, 29 November 2008 by Heidi
  • Egg hunting ~ If you have been reading you will probably know that last Thursday we got our first egg, closely followed by a second on Saturday, then nothing. We added Boven Nera’s on Tuesday who were giving us 2 eggs each day. But nothing more from the Chantecler’s. I was already suspicious and wondering if perhaps eggs were [...] Posted on Wednesday, 26 November 2008 by Heidi

Snow in Ottawa, Winter 2007 - 2008 With Steve being British and me 'brought up British' we are, of course, slightly weather obsessed. Before we emigrated Steve hadn't even seen 'real' snow and we had no idea about living with the stuff or the sub-zero temperatures! So here is a 'snow' page dedicated to the White Stuff! At the moment this a page of photos and facts about winter 2008-2009.

Calendar We have a Calendar, alongside interesting events it also details the phases of the moon. I am currently working on adding all English and Canadian events, please feel free to help me out by suggesting events or information that you think the calendar should contain.

Do Some Good Here is my do some good page; it is a collection (small at the moment) of sites that let you do some good for no, or very little, expenditure of your time or money. If you have any suggestions of other sites you think should / could be included, please let me know.
