Over Christmas we had rather a house full, as we added an extra two foster dogs - Beaker & Kramer -
First things first, we would like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
2008 was quite a year - well for us anyway! It probably ranks as the most life changing year, alongside 2006 when we emigrated! We started 2008 grieving and hoping for better things in the new year. The end of 2007 had seen the loss of my Grandpa, my job and in the very last days of the year, the very sudden loss of our kitten Chaz. I don’t think we could ever have imagined how much 2008 had in store for us!
We have a large basement room that was partially finished that is about 25ftx9ft, originally I had suggested to Steve that we could turn it into an English pub, with a bar and a dart board. Then we lost George. We both needed to do something and then it struck me that the room would be far more useful as a space for foster cats. As George came from a rescue it seemed to us that this would also be a rather fitting tribute to him.

It was pointed out to me today that it has been a while since I have shared any new photos of the orphan kittens we found in the summer. So here is the “Kitten New Room” gallery, I meant to publish ages ago, from when we moved them up to the spare bedroom and a new favourite pictures gallery.
On Sunday, we went over to Scott and Sarah’s to partake in wreath making. So rather than trekking to the stores and purchasing one, we took up the offer of creating our own. Being very new to this we had no idea what we should bring, so we picked up a small plain cedar wreath. Once there we decided that I was the more creative one that day.
So here is our creation, that can be seen hanging on the front door. Merry Christmas everyone.

On the day that saw me scanning the news looking to find out if justice would be done for the dogs that suffered at the hands of Carol LaPalme (www.spcamontreal.com) instead I found myself watching a video from the Humane Society on the latest bust that happened just this week:
And reading about the 200+ souls who having been rescued, and looking forward to a brighter future after suffering who knows what at the hands of people, perished in a tragic fire at a Humane Society shelter in Oshawa (www.cbc.ca).
I am not ashamed to admit that there have been tears today; but when I think about the puppy mills I am rather ashamed to belong to a species that can choose to cause such suffering.
I think Steve might block UsedOttawa …..
One of my favourite blogs to read is hmsindefatigable.blogspot.com and a while ago they mentioned Project Feeder Watch, now they may have been suggesting it as part of a homeschooling project, but for me it is an excuse to do what I am going to do anyway!
It has been all go around here!
I have been working on a new website for the Cat Rescue Network that I am really looking forward to sharing with you very soon. Sorry for the teaser, but I am very excited about this new project and couldn’t wait to share!
Over the weekend we made huge progress with Chloe (I have just been calling him Chappie) and Alfie. By the time we left their room Saturday evening we had not only gotten pills into both of them but both were all of the sudden singing, happy cuddle kittens. Since then all though every time we go in Alfie still heads under the bed and Chappie swears at us; soon enough Alfie comes out and goes back to playing and Chappie comes over to have treats and more importantly a fuss.
What an eventful day, since we got up this morning we have moved 102 bales of hay, reduced the chicken population by 5 roosters, won a race for a cat climber for George’s place and had two separate sightings of Aspen!
If you have been reading you will probably know that last Thursday we got our first egg, closely followed by a second on Saturday, then nothing. We added Boven Nera’s on Tuesday who were giving us 2 eggs each day. But nothing more from the Chantecler’s.
